K l a m at h C r u s a d e r s quarterback Craig Schofield sat out the first half of Saturday’s Oregon Football League game against South Coast with a shoulder injury, but he had a simple explanation as to why he was in uniform after halftime.
His wife told him to play.
Schofield listened to the advice, and it paid off to the tune of 235 yards and three touchdown passes as Klamath earned its first victory of the season, 33-19, in front of 50 fans at Viking Field.
“I knew it was a game we could win, and it was killing me sitting on the sidelines with the score tied,” Schofield said. “My wife came out of the stands and told me to go suit up. She said, ‘Hey, we can beat these guys. Go put your pads on.’”
From the first pass, a 15-yard completion to Chad Evans, the offense carried a swagger that was a staple of last season’s 4-0 start. This season, the Crusaders started 0-4 and struggled with the ball in their hands.
